Learning outcomes

Functional Cross Training is a training methodology that combines weightlifting, gymnastics and cyclical activities such as running, cycling and swimming in order to improve the functional capabilities of the individual. The combination of these activities also has a competitive expression in competitions like the CrossFit Games and Hyrox. The goal of this course is to introduce the student to this training methodology by learning its history, its fundamental principles including programming, and the physiological responses to workouts that combine strength and power training with training to develop cardiorespiratory fitness and muscular endurance ("Concurrent Training"). Furthermore, the student will practise some standardised training sessions ("Benchmarks"), will understand the issues relating to the organisation and coaching of group training sessions, and will demonstrate skills in teaching the technique of the main exercises used in Functional Cross Training.
