The course deals with the fundamental strategies of design and synthesis of drugs and with the molecular mechanism of drug action.

- Drug research and development.

- Strategies for lead compound identification.

- Combinatorial libraries.

- Molecular modifications of the lead.

-The concept of isostery and bioisostery and their applications.

- Strategies for molecular modification.

- Conformationally restricted analogues.

- Chiral modification.

- Chiral drugs.

- Molecular hybrids, bivalent ligands, address-message approach.

- Computer-aided molecular modelling.

- Design based on ligand structure and interaction site.

- Literature search on the web.
