Learning outcomes

At the end of the module, the student possesses the knowledge related to the care of the child and his/her family in the context of priority health problems in the maternal-infant area, with particular regard to preventive and educational aspects. He/she identifies, plans and evaluates assistive interventions and collaborates with other professional figures in diagnostic-therapeutic pathways and educational projects.

Course contents

At the end of the course, the student will know:

  • Define the main stages of a child's cognitive-relational growth and development.
  • Define and identify the newborn with weight and/or gestational age abnormalities.
  • Know and identify the principles for a positive relationship with the child and parents.
  • Knowing how to plan and carry out preventive, curative and rehabilitative interventions in relation to the most complex care problems encountered in paediatric age with particular reference to type I diabetes mellitus, keto acidosis and hypoglycaemia/hyperglycaemia, insulin therapy, diet and physical activity; thermoregulation, fever and convulsions; acute/chronic renal failure and peritoneal dialysis; gastroenteritis and gastroesophageal reflux; pneumonia, bronchiolitis and bronchial asthma; children undergoing surgery; paediatric oncohaematology and pain; eating disorders.
  • Define the main nursing implications in the administration of paediatric therapy.
  • Know the essentials of paediatric triage and emergencies.
  • Define the main nursing implications in the care of the child or young person with suspected abuse

Assessment methods

Oral test.

The purpose of the oral test is to verify the student's ability to apply his or her knowledge and make the necessary logical-deductive connections.

Grading of final grade: Preparation on a very limited number of topics covered in the course and ability to analyse emerging only with the help of the lecturer, expression in overall correct language → 18-19; Preparation on a limited number of topics covered in the course and ability to analyse autonomously only on purely executive issues, expression in correct language → 20-24; Preparation on a large number of topics dealt with in the course, ability to make autonomous choices of critical analysis, mastery of specific terminology → 25-29; Substantially comprehensive preparation on topics dealt with in the course, ability to make autonomous choices of critical analysis and linking, full mastery of specific terminology and ability to argue and self-reflect → 30-30

The test will be conducted in accordance with the indications contained in the University regulations (which you are invited to consult) and any other indications provided by the academic bodies from time to time
