Learning outcomes

Knowledge and skills to be achieved. At the end of the module the student applies the acquired knowledge related to technical, relational and educational competences in fundamental nursing care. He/she develops methodological competences related to nursing care planning. The activity is developed in relation to the practical training and theoretical content.

Course contents

  • Drug dosage calculation laboratory: at the end of the laboratory, the student will develop calculation skills for drug therapy dosage through the application of mathematical formulas (basic for doses, speeds and/or infusion times of solutions).
  • Care Planning Laboratory Medical area: strengthening the skills of diagnostic reasoning and nursing care planning with respect to the person with medical PPS.
  • Care planning laboratory Chronicity area: strengthening the skills of diagnostic reasoning and nursing care planning with regard to a chronic patient case.
  • Care planning laboratory Surgical area: strengthening the skills of diagnostic reasoning and nursing care planning with respect to the person with surgical PPS.
  • Paediatric Care Planning Laboratory: strengthening the skills of diagnostic reasoning and nursing care planning with respect to a paediatric patient case.
  • Bibliographical Research Laboratory: at the end of the laboratory, the student possesses the main knowledge with respect to the methodology for finding evidence that governs good clinical care practice.
  • Surgical wound dressing and CVC laboratory: at the end of the laboratory the student will have to: use DPs correctly, perform a surgical wound dressing, in a simulated environment, respecting the principles of asepsis and the safety of the patient and the operator, know the classification of central vascular devices according to their characteristics, know the general recommendations for the placement and management of CVCs, enunciate and correctly perform the exit-site dressing and CVC management procedure.
  • ECG lab: the student must be able to perform an ECG using the 12 leads on completion of the lab.
  • Paediatric observational laboratory: vaccination session
  • Teach back workshop: The student at the end of the workshop applies TB techniques

Assessment methods

Students participate in laboratory activities after registering on Alamaesami for the scheduled sessions or lists shared by the lecturer.

Please note that attendance at the laboratory activities is compulsory and a final qualification can be obtained by taking the Fundamental Nursing Laboratory 2 integrated course examination, which will be held from the May session onwards.

Please note that it is necessary to participate in the workshop activities in possession of the specific theoretical knowledge.
