Learning outcomes

At the end of the module the student knows the nursing methodology to respond to the care problems of the person / family / community and the preventive, curative, rehabilitative and palliative nursing activities pertinent to nursing assistance.

Course contents

  • Functional models according to the Gordon-Carpenito methodology applied to the nursing care process.

With reference to each functional model, the following are dealt with:

• the factors that influence it, the characteristics and the alterations;

• useful data for the targeted assessment;

• nursing diagnoses according to the NANDA taxonomy and collaborative problems;

• the welfare objectives;

• educational, preventive, curative and rehabilitative interventions that can be planned;

• nursing techniques applicable to health problems.

• ACTIVITY AND PHYSICAL EXERCISE:

o Personal care and hygiene:

  •  Illustrate the importance of personal care and personal hygiene in health and illness
  • Identify factors that may affect your self-care
  • Identify the subjective and objective factors important for the nursing assessment regarding the personalized care plan
  • Formulate related nursing diagnoses
  •  Identify care goals
  • Identify relevant interventions

o Mechanical and body mobility

  • Identify the normals of the musculoskeletal system and the characteristics of physiological movements
  • Identify the factors that can compromise or alter mobility, exposing specific considerations on the stages of life
  • Describe the impact of immobility on physiological and psychological function
  • Describe the subjective and objective data to be collected to evaluate the state of mobility
  • Formulate related nursing diagnoses
  • Identify care goals
  • Identify relevant interventions

o Oxygenation and respiratory function

  • Identify the normal functions of the tissue oxygenation system and related characteristics
  • Identify the factors that can hinder effective tissue oxygenation
  • Identify the changes in respiratory function that occur at various stages of life
  •  Describe the signs and symptoms of respiratory dysfunction and define the elements important for the assessment of pulmonary function
  • Describe methods of administering oxygen therapy
  • Describe the influence of respiratory dysfunction on activities of daily living

o Oxygenation and cardiovascular function

  • Identify normal functions of the cardiovascular system and normal tissue perfusion
  • Identify changes in cardiovascular function that occur across life stages

  •  Describe the effects of impaired cardiovascular function on normal activities of daily living
  • Describe the subjective and objective data for the nursing assessment

• NUTRITION AND METABOLISM:

o Fluid and electrolyte and acid-base balance

  • Identify the physiological system and the hydroelectrolyte and acid-base homeostasis
  •  Describe the physiological factors that influence the fluid and electrolyte and acid-base systems
  • Explain the impact of age on fluid and electrolyte status
  •  Describe the subjective and objective data for the nursing assessment of people with potential and/or real fluid and electrolyte imbalances
  • Formulate related nursing diagnoses
  •  Identify care goals
  •  Identify relevant interventions or Nutrition
  •  Identify essential nutrients and appropriate diet for life of the individual
  • Describe the physiological system of digestion, absorption and metabolism of food
  • Describe nutritional considerations with respect to life stages
