15559 - Human Motion Theory and Methodology

Academic Year 2023/2024

  • Moduli: Raffaele Zinno (Modulo 1) Elia Foschi (Modulo 2)
  • Teaching Mode: Traditional lectures (Modulo 1) Traditional lectures (Modulo 2)
  • Campus: Rimini
  • Corso: First cycle degree programme (L) in Exercise and Sport Sciences (cod. 8766)

Learning outcomes

At the end of the course, the student possesses the basic knowledge to analyse and describe the mechanical effects of muscle activation in a kinetic chain. They also know the principles of human performance, the basic elements of the analysis of physical efficiency and the relationship among movement's quality, physical capacity and activity.

Readings/Bibliography

Book

  • Anatomia Funzionale – Kapandij

The slides used during the lectures will be provided as part of the teaching material. The lecture material presented in class will be available on the Virtual platform of the Alma Mater Studiorum - University of Bologna.

It is advisable not to print out the material before the lectures, as the lecturer might make changes.

Other recommended texts:

  • Le basi scientifiche del movimento umano umano B. A. Gowitzke , M. Milner – seconda edizione EMSI-ROMA

  • Lineamenti di teoria e metodologia del movimento umano - F. Casolo

Teaching methods

The teaching consists of 6 CFU.

Both lectures and practical exercises.

The practical exercises are carried out by dividing the students into groups. Each group carries out 4 practical lessons of 2 hours each.

The practical exercises will take place in PALESTRA CARIM - Via Cuneo 11, Rimini.

The schedule of the practical exercises will be announced by the lecturer during the lessons and can be viewed on the lecturer's website (https://www.unibo.it/sitoweb/raffaele.zinno2/avvisi)

Assessment methods

Access to the exam

To take the TMMU examination, mandatory attendance of 3 out of the 4 scheduled exercises is required.

Modality

The exam for the integrated course of "Human Motion Theory and Methodology", which includes the teachings/modules of "THuman Motion Theory and Methodology" and "Human Kinesiology", consists of:

  • one written test
  • an oral test for each of the teachings/modules.

All the tests are in presence. It should be noted that the online modality shall be activated in the event of an emergency as communicated by University of Bologna.

The tests might be taken either in the same round or in two different rounds.

The written test will be a "Figure Examination" consisting of 3 parts:

  • Part One: Definitions of movement terms;
  • Part Two: Description of figures (total attitude and stance, stance and movements of body segments, grips of limbs, movements of individual joints);
  • Part Three: Analysis of the axis and plane of movement of the figures.

Scoring

The written test consists of 35 closed questions.

Questions concerning axes and planes are awarded 3 points, 1 point for other questions. No points are deducted if the student does not answer the question or gets it wrong.

The final result of the written test is pass or fail. Eligibility allows the student to take the oral test. A pass is obtained with 20 points.

The written test will last 25 minutes.

The test takes place in presence on the University of Bologna's EOL application.

The eligibility obtained in the written test remains valid for 1 year.

The results of the written test (pass or fail) will be made visible on the lecturer's website under the session notices.

Oral test

The oral examination can only be taken after obtaining the IDONEITY.

The final examination consists of an oral interview on the topics of both teaching modules (Human Motion Theory and Methodology and Human Kinesiology).

The student must present the main topics covered in the programme. In order to assess the student's preparation, the lecturer may use additional questions to analyse aspects relating to the main topics.

The following will be assessed:

  • the ability to present the required topics in a correct, complete and critical manner;
  • lthe clarity of exposition and the ability to use the specific language of the discipline.

For each teaching module the student receives a score, based on the ability demonstrated to illustrate fully and critically the required topics.

The two partial scores, according to a weighted average, thus in proportion to the number of credits (Human Motion Theory and Methodology = 6 CFU; Human Kinesiology = 3 CFU) contribute to the final grade.

Registration for the exam

In order to check the dates, venue and register for the exam, it is necessary to access "AlmaEsami".

The lists on AlmaEsami close two days before the start of each exam.

In order to participate in the exam, registration on AlmaEsami is required. Only students who have registered on time are admitted to take the examination

On examination days, students are required to arrive at the scheduled starting time of the examination, under penalty of exclusion from the examination; in case of delays due to trains, etc., the student must notify the teacher by e-mail. At the starting time of the examination session, the teacher will conduct a roll-call of those enrolled.

If there is a high number of students enrolled, the teacher may send an email to schedule students in different time slots. If a student does not receive the email, they must present themselves at the starting time of the test.

Teaching tools

The lessons will be accompanied by visual and audiovisual aids, which will be available on the "Virtual" platform of Alma Mater Studiorum - University of Bologna.

As part of the practical exercises, the course provides equipment for the assessment and teaching of "Human Motion Theory and Methodology"
