Learning outcomes

The course aims at outlining the competences of a curator of cinematographic and audiovisual contents in the contemporary scenario. At the end of the course students: - know the basics of the organization and direction of festivals or sections of festivals; - know the necessary activities for the curation of events related to film and media culture; - have notions related to the design and organization of retrospectives, reviews, schedules; - have knowledge about the curation of exhibitions and shows related to the audiovisual heritage.

Course contents

The course will be based on two levels:


1. Knowledge and competence of the notion of "film culture" and "audiovisual heritage" with a focus on the concept of film museum and exhibition of film and audiovisual culture


2. Film festivals: theory, practice, processes

Assessment methods

The student is asked to draw up a project between 4/5.000 words (plus any graphics and images) dedicated to the enhancement of the audiovisual heritage. The texts in bibliography, therefore, will serve as an acquisition of skills - there will be no oral or written exams but only the writing of the project itself.


Possible projects:


- Curator of an exhibition related to cinema or audiovisual culture


- Realization of a film retrospective


- Creation of a festival or event related to cinema or audiovisuals

- any other type of exhibition, curatorial or set-up itinerary linked to the audiovisual and archival heritage, even crossing different paths.
