99720 - Human Kinesiology

Academic Year 2023/2024

  • Teaching Mode: Traditional lectures
  • Campus: Bologna
  • Corso: First cycle degree programme (L) in Exercise and Sport Sciences (cod. 8512)

Learning outcomes

At the end of the course the student will have the knowledge to describe and analyze the human motor events from a physical point of view. In particular, it is able to consider the movements of the human body as a particular aspect of solid mechanics in its various components: kinematic, static, dynamic. The student becomes aware of that 'Kinesiological information is the basis of all science motor and has the basics for all applications of functional movement.

Course contents

  • Definition of Kinesiology
  • Effects statites and dynamic forces
  • The forces involved in creating the movement and the attitude of the body
  • Center of gravity. Polygon support
  • Posture
  • Kinesiology of the major joints

Assessment methods

Frequency of  3 practical exercises of the 4 scheduled is reguired to take the exam.

The exam of the integrated course of "Theory and Methodology of Human Movement" which includes the teachings/modules of "Theory and Methodology of Human Movement" and "Kinesiology" consists of a written and oral test for both teachings/modules.

All tests are in-person. Please note that the online mode will be activated in case of emergency by communication from the University of Bologna

The tests can be taken in the same call, or in two different calls (January-February; June-July; September).

The written test covers both modules and is inherent to the Figure Examination, which includes 3 parts:

- Part One: Definitions of movement terms.

- Part Two: Description of figures (total attitude and stance, stance and movements of body segments, limb holds, movements of individual joints).

- Part Three: Analysis of the axis and plane of movement of 2 figures.

The written test consists of 35 closed questions.

Questions pertaining to axes and planes are awarded 3 points, while other questions are awarded 1 point.

No points are deducted if the student does not answer the question or gets it wrong.

The final outcome of the written test is pass or fail. Eligibility allows the student to take the oral test. Eligibility is obtained with 20 points.

The duration of the written test is 25 minutes.

Final exam consists of a written preliminary test and an oral exam.

The duration of the written test is 25 minutes.

The test is taken in presence on the University of Bologna's EOL application.

The eligibility obtained at the written test remains valid 1 year.

The results of the written test (eligible or ineligible) will be indicated on the lecturer's website under the session notices.

The oral test is accessed only after obtaining the ELIGIBLE.

The final examination consists of an oral interview on the topics of both teaching modules (movement theory and methodology and kinesiology).

For the teaching of "Kinesiology" the student/student will have to expound 2 main topics provided in the syllabus. For the assessment of the student's/student's preparation, the lecturer may use additional questions aimed at analyzing aspects related to the main topics. The following will be assessed: the ability to expound correctly, completely and critically the required topics; clarity of exposition and the ability to use the specific language of the discipline.

For each didactic module, the student will receive a grade, based on the demonstrated ability to expound in an accomplished and critical manner the required topics.

The two partial grades, concur in the final grade, according to a weighted average, then in proportion to the number of credits (Theory and Methodology of Human Movement 6CFU; Kinesiology 3CFU) concur in the final grade.

The tests may be taken in the same appeal, or in different appeals (January-February; June-July; September).

There are no missed appeals.

There are 8 appeals during the Academic Year:

- 4 in January/February,

- 4 in June/July

- 2 in September.

A few times an appeal is inserted in the December window.

No appeals are included in the Easter session.

To check the dates, location and register for the appeals, it is necessary to access "AlmaEsami” of University of Bologna

In order to take the exam, registration on AlmaExams is required, in strict compliance with the deadlines; therefore, only students who have registered on time are allowed to take the exam.

Lists on Almaesami close two days before the start of each appeal.

On the days of the appeals, students are required to show up at the scheduled start time of the test, under penalty of exclusion from the test, in case of delay due to trains, etc. the student should notify the lecturer by e-mail. At the start time of the exam session, the lecturer will conduct a roll call of those enrolled

If there is a high number of registrants, it may be that the teacher will send an e-mail to stagger students into different time slots. If the student does not receive the e-mail, he or she must report at the test start time.
