99579 - FONDAMENTI DI CAD E DISEGNO DEL PRODOTTO INDUSTRIALE T

Academic Year 2023/2024

  • Teaching Mode: Traditional lectures
  • Campus: Bologna
  • Corso: First cycle degree programme (L) in Industrial Design (cod. 8182)

Learning outcomes

After completing the course the student has the skills to understand the features and capabilities of a CAD system through the study of its basic components, hardware and software. Also it acquired the necessary know-how in the design of objects and components and related technical standards of design through a commercial 2D drawing environment.

Course contents

The course aims to provide the necessary basis for the interpretation and execution of the technical design. After a first part dedicated to the geometric design, examines the main standards to be used for the correct representation of detail and assembly drawings (overall). A special emphasis on the role played by each in the assembly and especially the influence of the production system for the correct selection of forms and accurate indication of the additional information to be included (size, dimensions and geometric errors acceptable, etc...). There are practical exercises that explains and assigned some tables related to mechanical components or systems diagrams that the student performs during the course, or at least submit to the teacher at the time of the examination.

The exercises are "ex-tempore" and "annual":

- “ex-tempore” exercises

The “ex-tempore” exercises are individual. They provide for the execution of some graphic exercises on the themes of Technical Drawing in CAD.
The drawings will be delivered at the end of each exercise.
The tables of the ex-tempore must be independently revised by the student to correct the errors, for the final presentation during the exam.

The ex-tempore exercises involve testing the controls and applying the fundamentals of industrial technical design. They are evaluated and contribute to the final grade.

- "annual" exercise

The "annual" exercise will concern the representation of an object project. The students, organized in groups of three, will develop the drawings in seven practical exercises. The final presentation of the annual exercise will be in groups.

The evaluation of the annual exercise constitutes a substantial part of the final grade. The overall evaluation will be individual and defined by the evaluations of the ex-tempore exercises, annual, final interview, test.

Teaching methods

The course includes lectures on Industrial Design and laboratory exercises subject to evaluation. There are also two questionnaires (quizzes). Please note that 70% attendance of practical exercises is mandatory, in accordance with the Didactic Regulations for Laboratory activities.

Practical drawing exercises.

- "Ex-tempore" exercises:

Each practical exercise consists in the execution of graphic exercises, and short communications that will illustrate the commands and methods of execution of the exercise.

The exercise tables produced during the course must be presented again, complete and correct, in the final delivery, approximately 7 days before the exam.

- "Annual" exercises:

The "annual" exercise will be developed by students organized in groups of two during the days of practical exercise. The development of the annual exercise will take place according to the required content (choice of object, setting, documents to be performed, layout, etc ...). During the course, details for the execution will be provided.

- Test:

There are also two multiple choice tests - quizzes - to be performed on the Virtual platform.

Assessment methods

The final evaluation will take into account both the results of the exercises and the final tests:

Intermediate:

  • Evaluation of part of the individual practical exercises carried out during the course;
  • Individual intermediate verification tests (quiz);

Finals:

  • CAD practice test;
  • Evaluation of integrated and corrected ex-tempore exercises. To be delivered about 7 days before the exam date;
  • Evaluation of the "annual" exercise tables.
  • Oral interview for the discussion of the exercises. The interview will consist in deepening the theoretical notions in relation to the contents of the exercise tables.

"Participation" bonus: Students who have participated in 80% of the exercises may not take the practical CAD drawing test.

Teaching tools

The course consists of lectures and practical exercises in the laboratory using 2D CAD.

All the materials used for the lessons and exercises will be available through the Virtual platform.

For the first access to the PC of the IT Laboratories it is necessary to create an account by connecting to the page:
