Course contents

Intersections and inequalities: tackling prejudices towards Rom and Sinti, gender and sexual minorities.

The workshop focuses on the study of prejudices and discriminatory ideologies (eg racism and processes of racialization, sexism and sexual prejudice, anti-Roma and Sinti discrimination) starting from personal positioning and reflexivity on one's own prejudices.

The psychosocial approach to the study of these concepts is divided into 3 topics: prejudice and stereotypes, their reduction, discourses

The workshop aims to address some fundamental thematic issues: 1) the mental structures and psychological processes that form our beliefs and prejudices (self-reflection on one's own schemes); 2) the techniques and the development of soft skills (active listening, deconstruction, etc, etc ...) to learn how to reduce one's prejudices; 3) the ways in which texts, political speeches and daily conversations (re) produce, even in a subtle and implicit way, prejudicial attitudes that reinforce social exclusion.

For example, by analyzing the prejudices and stereotypes that target Roma and Sinti communities, at a transnational level, and aiming to their deconstruction.

Teaching methods

During the workshop we are going to address the theme of prejudices through various theoretical approaches, role-playing games, watching films; press analysis exercises will also be carried out to learn to grasp the distinctive characteristics of racist ideology and prejudice and its manifestations in public discourses.

Assessment methods

Participants are expected to carry out a group project (a short analysis of discourse material chosen by the students and / or video production) which they are going to present during the last lesson.

The laboratory is to be considered as a normal course and, therefore, students will be evaluated at the end of the teaching period based on the work done during the laboratory. The evaluation criteria used will be active participation in the workshop and individual contribution to the work carried out in groups.

As foreseen by the D.M. 270, the evaluation of the Laboratory, whose attendance is mandatory (20 hours of the 24 total), will take place using the following marks:qualified or not qualified.
