Learning outcomes

At the end of the course the student will be able to:

-carry out the basic configuration of the main technological components for the logic control of industrial automation systems;

- will be able to use the main software languages to perform basic operations on logic control processing systems.

Course contents

- Presentation of the HW architecture (PLC+ I/O) and the corresponding IDE

- Configuration and test of the HW platform, connection to the PC and download procedure (to PLC).

- Assisted exercises of PLC programming (logic control) with languages defined by the IEC 6113-1 standard (with focus on structured text)

- Design and development (in groups) of a logic control project of medium complexity for a simulated plant.

Teaching methods

- presentation of environments, architectures, and exercises, via slides;


- practical demonstrations on the laboratory platform, and interactive assistance for the exercises.

Assessment methods

Presentation and discussion of the logic control solution adopted for the assigned project. A brief report illustrating the structure adopted is required. The presentation will be oral, with verification of the functioning of the solution on the laboratory HW platform.
