Learning outcomes

At the end of the course, the student has the ability to understand the principles on which the operation of magnetic resonance instruments for the performance of in vitro, ex vivo and in vivo analysis is based.

Course contents

  • Protein diagnostics: monoclonal gammopathies, pathophysiology and laboratory diagnosis.
  • Alterations of hemoglobins: Hemoglobinopathies and Thalassemias: pathophysiology and laboratory diagnosis.
  • Diabetes Mellitus: Glycated hemoglobins. Description and main tests.
  • Flow Cytometry: operating principle and application in the laboratory.
  • Autoimmune diseases: explanations of the main autoimmune diseases. Methods used for performing level I tests (indirect immunofluorescence) and methods used for performing level II tests (Elia, Feia).
  • Toxicology: biological matrices, characteristics of the main substances of abuse, chain of custody, screening and confirmatory analyses. Principles of mass spectrometry.
