Academic Year 2023/2024

  • Teaching Mode: Traditional lectures
  • Campus: Bologna
  • Corso: First cycle degree programme (L) in Biomedical Laboratory techniques (cod. 8484)

Learning outcomes

At the end of the course the student will have the ability to understand the principles on which the functioning of magnetic resonance instruments is based for the execution of in vitro, ex vivo and in vivo analyses.

Course contents

Glycated and pathological hemoglobins: principles of the method (ion exchange HPLC) and execution of the tests with interpretation of the results.

Autoimmune diseases: explanations of the main autoimmune diseases. Methods used for performing level I tests (indirect immunofluorescence) and methods used for performing level II tests (Elia, Feia).

Flow cytometry: basic principles and main tests performed during the internship.

Autoimmunity: main tests performed in the sector.
Protein electrophoresis: electrophoretic tracing of proteins and execution of the main tests (manual immunofixation, isofocusing). Nephelometry in electrophoresis.

Pharmacotoxicology: biological matrices, characteristics of the main substances of abuse, chain of custody, screening and confirmatory analyses. Principles of mass spectrometry and main tests performed (CDT, Immunosuppressants).
