Learning outcomes

When the workshop concludes, students:

  • will be able to apply the specific techniques that they have learned both independently and in the context of projects organized by institutions;
  • will know how to apply the specific knowledge learned to a variety of types of service;
  • will know how to evaluate the limitations and benefits of the technical tools learned;
  • will know how to transfer the technologies learned to a variety of contexts by making personal modifications and additions to them

Course contents

The course will describe the main observational techniques in developmental psychology: narrative descriptions, coding system, checklists, rating scales and questionnaires. Furthermore, the course will present some observational tools that can be used by students on the workplace. Both in reference to the description of the general characteristics of the observational method and in relation to the instruments, several exercises and activities will be carried out in order to allow the students to apply the techniques of observation.

Teaching methods

Several exercises will be proposed through the presentation of videos and observational protocols.

The classroom exercises are particularly important to understand the observation techniques through their application, discussing the difficulties and advantages and limitations of each method of observation

Assessment methods

Assessment method consists of the correction of the exercises related to the various observation techniques proposed during the course and carried out time to time by students.
The final evaluation will consist in an elegibility.

Videos will show to practice the use of observation techniques.
