Learning outcomes

At the end of the course the students will be at hand with various specialist topics concerning Animal Protection Law (farming, transport, slaughtering, etc.) at european and national level. The student will be able: - to operate in compliance with current regulations within public bodies and enterprises; - to select and to apply the correct rules.

This teaching is part of an integrated course with a single final examination.

Course contents

First part

Fundamentals of public law and fundamental legal concepts

  1. The legal system, rules, public law and private law
  2. The State and the International Community
  3. Organs of the State: Parliament, Government, President of the Republic.
  4. Sources of law and the regulatory acts
  5. The Public administration
  6. Administrative acts
  7. The Judiciary
  8. The European Union: organs and regulatory acts

Second part

Animal Law and Veterinary Legislation

  1. The buying and selling of animals and the actions to guarantee of the buyer
  2. Liability for damage caused by animals
  3. The Criminal Code and offences related to the abuse of animals
  4. Rules on the protection of animals on farms in general
  5. Protection of pigs on farm
  6. Protection of calves on farms
  7. Protection of laying hens
  8. Protection of broilers
  9. Protection of animals in transport
  10. The protection of animals in slaughterhouses

English speaking students are encouraged to contact the teacher for appropriate readings in English.

Teaching methods

Frontal lessons and focus groups

Assessment methods

This teaching is part of an integrated course with a single final examination. The score represents the weighted average of each test.

At the end of the course, an oral exam is scheduled, aimed at assessing not only the acquisition of knowledge required, but also the acquisition of the relevant skills.

Evaluation criteria:

- understanding of the student with respect to the individual topics required

- ability to exposure, link and compare different aspects and contents

- ability to apply theoretical knowledge to concrete situations

Access to the test is free. The test will take about 20 minutes. Aids are not allowed, except for those who are entitled.

A total mastery of all the topics of the course, together with an equal capacity for critical analysis, connection and a sure mastery of the specific terminology will be evaluated with the maximum score (30-30L)

A very satisfactory knowledge of the topics covered in the course, combined with a convincing analytical and critical skills, and the possession of adequate command of the specific terminology will be evaluated with very good score (27-29)

A good preparation, technically suitable for acting in the field, in line with the objectives of the course, which in any case demonstrates at least moderate analytical and connection skills, all expressed in correct language, will produce evaluations in the evaluation range 23-26.

Sufficient preparation and capacity for analysis, expressed in barely formally correct language, will determine the pass mark, 18-22.
