Course contents

This course is aimed at students who already have a basic knowledge of the Italian language at level A1 / A2, in reference to the Common European Framework for the knowledge/learning of languages.

The students who attend this course will have the opportunity to improve the four skills: listening, reading, writing and speaking.

Therefore, for this purpose, students will have to:

- acquire new vocabulary, new grammatical rules and strengthen those already known; develop reading, conversation and communication strategies.

- be able to understand texts relating to personal life (such as e-mail messages, letters, job CVs, telephone messages, etc.) and converse on everyday topics (work, school, politics, free time, etc.)

- focus on understanding oral and written texts, in order to understand radio and television programmes, films, videos and other multimedia materials of professional importance; be able to decode texts (readings, newspaper articles, instructions, directions, etc.) frequent in everyday conversation and in work environments.

- explore themes that concern Italy and its culture, in the broader context of the EU and the rest of the world, so as to be able to manage most of the circumstances that may arise when traveling in Italian-speaking areas.
Given the mixed nature of this course, preparation will be aimed at the need to reach the B1 level of linguistic competence.

Further teaching material, such as slides and texts, will be communicated to students during lessons.

Teaching methods

The teaching method consists of frontal lessons on the main themes of the Italian language and its relative application in a practical field; without neglecting debates and conversations held in the classroom.

In this regard, groups of students may be established for greater collaboration and learning. Furthermore, students will also be able to be supported in their study independently, via the Unibo e-learning platform.

Assessment methods

The learning verification/evaluation method will consist in the pursuit of suitability, through a written test, mainly composed of three complementary parts.

- Use of the language in various situations / vocabulary section with multiple choice questions.

- Reading and comprehension with multiple choice and/or open questions.

- Listening and comprehension section with multiple choice questions

The test pass threshold is set at 60% and the maximum time allowed to complete all sections of the test is 90 minutes.

Teaching tools

In addition to the teaching material set out above, the lessons will be based on Slides, as well as on the possibility of using computer sources, videos, films, music, newspapers and the like.

Active and voluntary participation is essential.
