85437 - Introduction to the Concept Bobath (BO)

Academic Year 2023/2024

  • Teaching Mode: Traditional lectures
  • Campus: Bologna
  • Corso: First cycle degree programme (L) in Physiotherapy (cod. 8476)

Learning outcomes

knowledge relating basic neurophysiological principles of the Bobath concept relating to tone modulation and activities to guide functional recovery. Acquires skills, through simulated activities, of postural passages and activities for trunk and limb control for subjects diagnosed with stroke.

Course contents

Theory part

Preparatory topics for the practical part: history of the Bobath concept; basics of clinical reasoning; analysis and facilitation of normal movement; communication within the CNS; upper motor neuron syndrome; postural control and postural adjustments; neural and muscular plasticity; Motor control and motor learning; The trunk and core stability; locomotion; Recovery of the upper limb.

Practice part:

Evaluation through observation; stop standing; treatment of the trunk: evocation of the deep and superficial muscles of the abdomen, linear acceleration, recline sitting, lateral tilt; postural steps: sit to supine symmetrical and asymmetrical, supine - side line, supine - prone; lower limb treatment: foot activation, crow cline, stand down, back step, the first step; upper limb treatment: placing.
