Learning outcomes

By the end of the course the students - knows the main paradigms in psychology related to learning and memory processes, and to their deficits. They are able to design educational and teaching interventions related to learning disabilities - they are able to evaluate projects of rehabilitation intervention related to cognitive disabilities and in particular to learning disabilities -they are able to use analysis and comparison tools to autonomously deepen their knowledge related to the difficulties induced by deficits of cognitive function.

Course contents

During the course we will describe the main theorical models of learning psychology, from behaviorism to cognitive modularism, with particular reference to the models by Fodor and Karmiloff-Smith. We will then analyze the main learning disabilities, with the related evaluation and intervention techniques. In particular, we will present the specific learning disabilites with a genetic, biological or environmental causes, disabilities of language, of reading-writing, discalculia, difficulties in problem solving, understanding, attention deficit, hyperactivity and some genetic syndromes that harm learning.

Particular stress will be on the autistic spectrum disorders given the educational and social relevance of these pathologies

The (oral) exam is meant to verify that the following objectives have been met: deep knowledge of the topics that constitute the program, so as to verify that the student will be able to use the information gathered in the different working environments.
