Learning outcomes

Acquires the knowledge and ability to understand neurophysiological recording techniques in ICU setting and in brain death.

Course contents

Definition of ICU. Confirmation of death with neurological criterion and evolution of Italian legal framework regulation. Law 11 April 2008 containing the modalities for certification of death. Definition of coma, Glasgow scale. Digital EEG. cEEG. Artifacts in intensive care. Analyses of EEG tracings and evoked potentials performed in intensive care. Hand hygiene and use of gloves. Group work, simulation of the death assessment procedure.
