Learning outcomes

By the end of the course studets will be able to use appropriate softwares to organize data and perform routine statistical procedures.

Course contents

Introduction and proper use of R environment to analyze data and report statistical results:

  • Software R and RStudio GUI;
  • Basic functions and operators in R;
  • Types of data, objects, logical operators;
  • Vectors, vectorial functions; matrices, arrays, dataframes;
  • Dataset import/export;
  • Descriptive statistics for continuous and/or categorical variables;
  • Visualizing data and summaries.

Readings/Bibliography

Materials on the use of R Software will be provided by the teacher, in particular both slides (.pdf format) and R codes/scripts.

Teaching methods

Lectures at the lab.

Given the type of teaching activity, attending this course requires students to have preemptively undergone Module 1 and 2 about security when in rooms and laboratories for studying, through the e-learning platform [https://elearning-sicurezza.unibo.it/]."

Assessment methods

Statistical report on a dataset - collective works are accepted - together with the script used to analyze the data presented in the report. The deliverable will be discussed during the oral exam.
