78613 - Guidelines in Ischemic Heart Disease

Academic Year 2023/2024

  • Teaching Mode: Traditional lectures
  • Campus: Bologna
  • Corso: Single cycle degree programme (LMCU) in Medicine and Surgery (cod. 8415)

Learning outcomes

The module explains the indications provided by the most important international scientific societies, regarding the management/treatment of patients who present (or have had) an acute coronary syndrome and/or are affected by chronic coronary syndrome, make them aware of the physiopathological bases and of the scientific evidence underpinning these indications.

At the end of the lessons, the student will have acquired not only the knowledge of the indications provided by the guidelines, but also those which, on the basis of comorbidities, remain points of uncertainty, for a correct management and secondary prevention of coronary artery disease.

Course contents

Management of the patient with "ST segment elevation myocardial infarction": diagnosis and treatment of the patient in the acute phase, therapies for the secondary prevention of major adverse events (death, recurrence of infarction, etc.). Special populations: elderly and subjects with comorbidities (diabetes, renal insufficiency, atrial fibrillation).
Management of the patient with "non-ST-segment elevation acute coronary syndrome": diagnosis and treatment of the patient in the acute phase, therapies for secondary prevention of adverse events (death, recurrent heart attack, etc.), risk stratification of adverse events. Special populations: elderly and subjects with comorbidities (diabetes, renal insufficiency, atrial fibrillation).
Management of the patient with "acute myocardial infarction and coronary arteries without obstructive lesions": identification of the type of MINOCA and subsequent therapies.
Management of the patient with "chronic coronary syndrome": diagnostic strategies, classification, therapies for primary and secondary prevention, prognostic risk stratification of adverse events.
Indication and risk/benefit evaluation of antiplatelet, anticoagulant, dual and triple therapy.
