Course contents
Module 1 of the course aims to give students the theoretical knowledge to interpret the processes, practices of contemporary design, to encourage the construction of a responsible critical thinking to the project and to support the choice, in the design research phase, of approaches and tools best adapted to the contexts in which they are going to operate respecting the values of inclusion, ethics and design sustainability.
Today, in designer education, the development of critical skills and the expression of innovative and responsible design ideas comes through knowledge of the contexts, relationships, artifacts, fragilities and potentialities of territorial ecosystems.
Knowledge and awareness of different methods to design cultures in all their declinations also allows the development of a critical-design consciousness and the ability to recognize emerging approaches and to be able to capture in the multidimensionality and plurality of approaches and tools those most adequate for each design context.
Through processes of observation and analysis (scenarios, literature and of case studies) and experimentation with approaches and tools in real and non-real contexts, the module aims to highlight an interdisciplinary, inclusive approach to design toward the use of design systems from a human centered design and responsible design perspective.
