Learning outcomes
After completing the course the student:-knows in depth the social and cultural aspects related to situations of hardship and marginalization with particular reference to urban;- it has a good knowledge of processes of primary and secondary socialization of individual; - it is able to understand the social contexts and territorial with particular reference to the changes in the twentieth century; -it is able to detect and document situations of psychological distress and social groups and minorities in the area; - it is able to confront dynamics of complex and multicultural society; -knows how to collect, interpret and reflect on data and methods related to their field of study; -knows how to collect, interpret and reflect on data and methods related to their field of study, demonstrating skills critical scientific scientific and reflective;- knows how to present issues and problems concerning the dynamics the of social change to several recipients, specialists and using appropriate communication registers.

Course contents

Course contents
Origins of sociological thought in relation to the birth of modern society, with particular reference to the authors, today called classics, which have focused on the changes related  to the  development of modernity. Analysis of the concepts basic sociological. Also course focuses on some elements of qualitative sociological research methods, in particular we will cover  the following topics: types of observation in social research, participiant observation, interviews, biographical approach and life stories.

Lectures, guided readings, discussion of video material.

Assessment methods

Learning is tested by means of an oral examination.

The aim of the oral test is to verify the student's ability to apply his or her knowledge and to make the necessary logical-deductive connections.


Grading of the final grade:

Preparation on a very limited number of topics covered in the course and analytical ability that emerges only with the help of the teacher, expression in overall correct language → 18-19;
Preparation on a limited number of topics covered in the course and ability to analyse independently only on purely executive issues, expression in correct language → 20-24;
Preparation on a large number of topics covered in the course, ability to make autonomous choices of critical analysis, mastery of specific terminology → 25-29;
Substantially comprehensive preparation on the topics covered in the course, ability to make autonomous choices of critical analysis and linking, full command of specific terminology and ability to argue and self-reflect → 30-30L.
