Learning outcomes

At the end of the module the student has the knowledge related to taking charge of the person and his family in the context of priority specific health problems with particular regard to preventive, rehabilitative and educational aspects also within the community. Develops the therapeutic relationship as a shared intervention tool in the multidisciplinary field. It identifies, plans and evaluates the interventions of collaboration and collaborates with other professional figures in the diagnostic-therapeutic pathways.

Course contents

Mental illness: epidemiological, historical, legislative aspects of reference. Evolution of the nursing profession in Mental Health Services and Pathological Dependencies. The Department of Mental Health and Pathological Addictions. The main reference models in the psychiatric field. The bio-psycho-social paradigm in community psychiatry: psychiatric rehabilitation and the concept of Recovery. The classification of mental disorders. The nursing process in Mental Health and Pathological Dependencies. Care planning applied to the main clinical pictures: mood disorders, psychotic disorders, anxiety disorders. Responsibilities and specific skills of the nurse in Mental Health Services and Pathological Dependencies. Taking charge of the person with mental disorder: the role of the team and the case manager. The helping relationship and the concept of empowerment. Principles of nursing in aggressive behaviors, in suicidal behaviors and in substance abuse. Collaborative problems in the use of psychotropic drugs.
