Al termine del corso lo studente avrà acquisito le conoscenze degli elementi-base per un utilizzo autonomo e corretto dei dati in ambito sanitario e gli strumenti della statistica medica e dell'epidemiologia clinica per una lettura critica della letteratura medico-scientifica.
Course contents
Observation units, variables and types of data.
Frequency distributions and data visualizations.
Means and measures of statistical dispersion.
Shapes of a distribution.
Relationship between two variables: contingency tables and correlation measures.
Outline of probability theory: random variables and probability distributions.
Random samples, estimation theory and confidence intervals.
Statistical tests for comparing means, frequencies and distributions.
Measures of diagnostic accuracy.

Teaching methods
Taught classes.
Assessment methods
Twenty-five-minute quiz consisting of 16 questions with 4 possible answers.
The test is passed if the student answers at least 8 questions correctly. There are no penalties for wrong answers. Students who fail the exam are permitted to retake it on any of the subsequent exam dates.
Calculators and formularies are unnecessary. Non-native Italian speakers are allowed to use a dictionary.
Students can schedule a meeting by email to review and discuss their past exam with the professor.

The slides and scientific articles presented in class will be made available to the students on the university's online platform.
