Learning outcomes

At the end of the course the student has a preparation that allows him to know the possibilities and limits of manual and mechanical non-surgical periodontal instrumentation; apply instrumentation knowledge to appropriately evaluated clinical situations; reevaluate the patient at the end of the causal therapy.

Course contents

NON-SURGICAL PERIODONTAL INSTRUMENTATION

1. Manual instrumentation

Description of periodontal instruments, Grip of periodontal instruments, Support point and fulcrum techniques. Patient and operator working positions (reinforcement of knowledge).Diagnostic parameters, dental morphology and instrumentation movements.

2. Mechanical instrumentation

Piezoelectric, magnetostrictive sonic and ultrasonic instruments, contraindications to the use of mechanical instruments, comparison between manual and ultrasonic instrumentation, advantages and disadvantages.
