Learning outcomes

At the end of the course, the student possesses the knowledge of the basic elements for an autonomous and correct use of data; he/she acquires the tools for a critical reading of the medical literature, and the ability to interact with health services for epidemiological evaluations or quality checks.

Statistical units, characters and measurement scales.


Statistical surveys and setting up a database.


Frequency distributions and graphical representations.


Central tendency and variability measures.


Relationship between two characters: contingency tables and correlation indices.


Statistical tests for comparing averages, frequencies and distributions.


Linear and logistic regression models.


Main designs of an epidemiological study.


Measures of occurrence and association in epidemiology.
