Learning outcomes

At the end of the module, students will be able to understand and discuss crucial topics and methods in the field of macroeconomics, such as for instance the general macroeconomic equilibrium in open and closed economies.

Course contents

Goods markets: GDP, aggregate demand, equilibrium

Financial markets: money demand, interest rate

IS-LM model in a closed economy: the IS curve, the LM curve, short run equilibrium

Labor markets: wages, prices, natural rate of unemployment

Phillips Curve: inflation, expected inflation, potential output, IS-LM-PC medium run equilibrium

Growth theory: Savings, capital accumulation and aggregate production, physical and human capital, technological progress

Economic Policy: monetary and fiscal policies: rules or discretion? History of macroeconomic thought in the XX° century.

Open Economy: Balance of Payments, exchange rates regimes, IS-LM model in an open economy.
