Learning outcomes

Knowledge and skills

At the end of the course, the student will possess knowledge and skills concerning:

• oral cavity and its characteristics related to plaque accumulation and preventive measures;

• oral cavity disinfection by chlorexidine- & ozone-based products;

• dentine and enamel demineralization; remineralizing materials and toothpastes;

• dentine hypersensitivity and materials for its prevention and treatment;

• systemic pathologies related to oral bacteria and plaque accumulation;

• preventive measures by at-home oral hygiene practices: toothbrushing, flossing, tongue hygiene, lifestyle and dietary practices; 

• basics of oral hygiene using ultrasounds;

• hygiene and disinfection of the dental unit water lines;

• basics of posturology and dental ergonomics; preventive & therapeutic exercises for joint mobilization and decompression and muscle release;

• work-related musculoskeletal disorders among dental professionals;

•  bibliographic research and critical analysis of scientific articles.

 

Course contents

The course consists of a significant practical activity to facilitate the acquisition of skills and knowledge during teaching hours.

Educational activities will take place:

• In the classroom for conventional frontal teaching related to oral hygiene and to learn the use of scientific databases for bibliographic research and preparation of PowerPoint presentations.

• In the clinic for an initial approach to the management of the dental unit and instruments.

• In the Posturology classroom for acquiring the basics of Dental Ergonomics and postural awareness.
