Learning outcomes

At the end of the workshop the student knows how to apply what was dealt with in the course within a simulated learning environment; s/he knows how to think critically and how to discuss within a group about the issues presented in the workshop.

Course contents

Closely intertwined with teaching, the workshop focuses on children's literature as a cultural expression with universal value, exemplified by a variety of narrative proposals chosen from among the most representative of childhood itself, as an autonomous age with its own needs, views and thoughts.
The workshops are worth 1 cfu, equivalent to 25 teaching hours distributed as follows:

- 4 hours of classroom work: during the first meeting, students will be guided and invited to take an active part in a collective analysis carried out on the proposed picturebooks and novels. The analysis will aim to carry out a hermeneutic excavation of the works in order to identify the representation of childhood and the style of the work. This guided analysis will fine-tune and refine the criteria and skills for recognizing the best children's literature.
Then students will be invited to consult the resources provided and to discuss in small groups more independently. Finally, each student/student will have to choose a novel and a picturebook from those proposed and communicate their choice in view of the final work of the workshop.
The final work of the workshop will consist of a video-recorded analysis of the chosen and read novel and picturebook, in which the student/student will have to show her/hermeneutic excavation skills (interpretation, decipherment, identification of themes and communicative strategies, digging between the lines to derive deep meaning) of the two chosen works and, thus, to have developed criteria for recognizing good books to offer to children.

Readings/Bibliography

Novels and picturebooks, the list of which will be provided during the workshop.

Teaching methods

Assessment methods

Evaluation will be 0, in case of attendance, active participation in the workshop, making the videotaped presentation of the novel and picturebook chosen and read
Negative evaluation of the workshop (-1) will result in one point being subtracted from the exam grade.
It will also be possible to achieve as assessment +1 (which will be added to the exam grade) in case the student intends to do additional work, consisting of an in-depth report on a topic/author/book addressed in the lab. The 10-page paper must be written after consulting an in-depth bibliography recommended by the lab instructor and must be delivered to his or her e-mail address (stefania.carioli@unibo.it) at least 10 days before the exam call to which the student wants to appear and, in any case, within one month after the end of the lab.
