Learning outcomes

At the end of the course the student acquires the necessary knowledge to practice manual lymphatic drainage and is able to perform basic manual skills through simulated activities.

Course contents

Program:

-Lymphatic circulation (anatomy and physiology of the lymphatic system)

-Starling equilibrium

- Lymphedema.

- Lymphedema pathology: staging, classification, type of lymphedema, diagnostic tools, measurement technique and complications. -

Manual Lymphatic Drainage: -Indications and contraindications - Integrative therapies to DLM: physical therapies, pressotherapy, diet,

-Elastocompressive bandage (Laplace's law, characteristics of the bandages and evaluation of the bandage)

-Sheaths: composition and their use-

Practical part: -

Manual lymphatic drainage and multilayer bandage of:

Upper limb in the presence or absence of axillary lymphonodes (post-mastectomy)

Lower limb in presence or absence of inguinal or pelvic lymphonodes

- Demonstration and practical tests of manual lymphatic drainage of: chest, back, buttocks, face and neck.

-Linfotaping (indications and contraindications) -

demonstration and practical tests of lymphotaping application.
