Learning outcomes
Acquires the knowledge and the ability to understand neurophysiological recording techniques in the intensive care area and in brain death.
Course contents
Definition of critical area. Assessment of death with a neurological criterion. D.L 11 April 2008 laying down the procedures for ascertaining and certifying death. Definition of coma, Glasgow scale. Digital EEG. Artifacts in the ICU. Vision of EEG traces and evoked potentials performed in intensive care. Hand hygiene and use of gloves. Group work, simulation of the procedure for ascertaining death.
Teaching methods
Lessons using slides with images and short films. Viewing of interactive EEGs.
Assessment methods
Oral exam with free questions regarding the topics covered in class.
