Learning outcomes
At the end of the module the student possesses the ability to apply knowledge and understanding regarding the historical and legislative facts that have determined the cultural and professional evolution of the midwife figure with particular regard to the transition from practical-empirical assistance, purely to women, to a structured and organized assistance based on scientific knowledge.

- History of the midwifery profession, evolution of midwifery skills, autonomy and responsibilities
- Training and regulatory evolution
- Birth cultures
- Concept of “Midwifery”
- Concepts of physiology, pathology and risk
- Areas of competence of the specific field of activity and responsibility of the Midwife
- Analysis of the type of assistance activity
- Team work
- The relationship and communication (verbal and non-verbal) with the pregnant woman
- From "Colleges of Midwives" to "Professional Orders" - National Federation of Orders of the Midwifery Profession (FNOPO)
- Code of Conduct - Professional secrecy International Code of Ethics for Midwives (ICM 1993)
