Learning outcomes

At the end of the laboratory the student will develop the skills necessary to apply the knowledge learned in the courses of his/her programme degree. The student will be able to collect, organise and analyse complex information as well as present the findings both in oral presentation and in writing papers.

NOTE: THE LAB IS TAUGHT IN ENGLISH

Course contents

The course focuses on critical readings of articles and videos centred on political science topics. Material for discussion and readings will be distributed during the classes.

Critical readings are structured in the following way:

  1. Introduction
  2. Theme and context
  3. Analysis of the structure
  4. Evaluation of general theme
  5. Clarity and precision
  6. Strengths and weaknesses or argument
  7. Positive, negative, balanced criticism
  8. Argument
  9. Relevance
  10. Conclusions

Readings/Bibliography

Any book-article on critical reading.

Teaching methods

Lectures are interactive teacher-student. Each week students will read one article or watch a film and write a review.

 

The course is taught in English.

Assessment methods

A written critical review of newspaper article, film or book of 1000 words to be handed in by 16 January 2023.

 

Participation in the lab is mandatory. There is no exam for non attending students who will not be able to earn the  4 credits.
