Learning outcomes

At the end of the module, the student will achieved the basic knowledge about the physical charachteristics of the sound wave and the mechanisms that regulate its transmission and reception; besides, he/she knows the physiopathology and the diagnostic and therapeutic principles of the most important audiological and otological diseases.

Course contents

Ear anatomy and physiology. Pathophysiology of the most important affections, principles of diagnosis, therapy and rehabilitation. Pure tone audiometry. Vocal audiometry. Classification of the types of hearing loss. Pediatric hearing loss: etiology, newborn hearing screening, diagnositic tests (OAEs, ABR, pediatric audiometry). Hearing aids and cochlear implant.

Teaching methods

Lectures, traineeship (in common with Otolaryngology).

Assessment methods

Multiple answer quiz (7 questions for Audiology, 7 for ENT, 8 for Dentist Medicine and surgery, 9 for Ophthalmology). Duration: 1 h. As an alternative, possibility of oral exam by request concerning the program. No phones or textbooks are allowed. One point will be assigned for each correct answer. To obtain the sufficiency the candidate needs an overall score greater than or equal to 18 and to rech a sufficient evaluation in each module. Duration of the exam is 40 minutes. Registration to the exam is on line on Alma Esami. The notitfication of the evaluation will be available on Alma Esami. Candidates have the possibility to reject a positive result by sending  an email to the Coordinator of the course.
