Learning outcomes

At the end of the course the Student:

- has acquired basic knowledge of the principles of healthy and nutrition for the general population;

- knows how to identify at an early stage those sports practitioners at risk of developing a eating disorder and her/his role as graduate in Motor Sciences in the multidisciplinary team that deals with eating disorders;

- has acquired basic knowledge of the peculiar nutritional aspects inherent to diseases subject to adapted physical activity

- understands and knows how to apply the interaction between diet and physical activity, including the principles of nutrition and hydration in adapted physical activity and major sports;

- is able to collaborate with other figures in the integrated treatment of obesity

Course contents

Healthy nutrition in the general population

The Italian guidelines for healthy nutrition

Food groups: subgroups and types of foods, characteristic nutrients and advice for consumption

Standard portion sizes and daily division of meals

The Mediterranean Diet: definition and health characteristics; food sources of bioactive compounds

Exercise: how is my nutrition

Standard food plans for the general population

The application of the guidelines for a healthy diet at the age of childhood and adolescence

Other dietary models: scientific evidence. Fad diets.

Sustainable nutrition.

Nutrition and physical activity in the prevention and therapy of overweight, obesity and metabolic syndrome

- Definition, epidemiology, pathophysiology (outline), risk factors, nutritional and behavioral aspects, therapeutic objectives

- Microbiota, nutrition and ophysical exercise

- Precautions to be taken in people with metabolic syndrome while exercising

Nutrition, physical activity and diseases

The disorders of nutrition and nutrition in sports practitioners and athletes

Definition. Risk factors.

The athlete's triad.

Principles of prevention of eating and nutrition disorders.

The role of the Sports Science graduate in the multidisciplinary team dealing with eating disorders.

Front lectures, practical lab for dietary intake evaluation

Assessment methods

The final exam will be oral on the programme of the Course. Possible pre-evaluation through written multiple choice test.

The e-learning platform of the Alma Mater Studiorum University of Bologna will host main teaching aids, tools and slides.

Some of the contents - except slides who are granted to all registered students - may be reserved to students attending the course by person.
