85437 - Introduction to the Concept Bobath (CE)

Academic Year 2021/2022

  • Docente: Giulia Palazzi
  • Credits: 2
  • Language: Italian
  • Teaching Mode: Traditional lectures
  • Campus: Bologna
  • Corso: First cycle degree programme (L) in Physiotherapy (cod. 8476)

Learning outcomes

At the end of the course, the student will acquire knowledge relating to the basic neurophysiological principles of the Bobath concept referred to the modulation of tone and to guiding activities for functional recovery.

the student will acquire skills, through simulated activities of postural transitions and activities for the control of the trunk and limbs for subjects diagnosed with stroke.

Course contents

Theorical part:

History of the Bobath concept; patient evaluation and clinical reasoning; normal movement; upper motor neuron syndrome; postural control and postural adjustments; neural and muscular plasticity; motor control and motor learning; the trunk and core-stability; locomotion. Treatment within 24 hours.

Practical part:

Illustration and simulation of treatment:

- treatment techniques to realign muscles and joints and send correct proprioceptive information from the periphery to the CNS;

- guide of the correct movement sequences for the ascent (Sit to Stand), the maintenance of the erect position (Stop Standing) and the postural passages;

- correct alignment and first therapeutic proposals in the acute phase: - treatment of the trunk (evocation of the deep and superficial muscles of the abdomen, linear acceleration, lateral tilt) - preparation for stance and swing and use of walking aids
