Learning outcomes
At the end of the module, the student acquires basic knowledge on the following topics: Numbering systems, the four operations in binary basis, boolean algebra, the digital coding of images and texts, the history of the internet, network technologies, e-mail, search engines. The student is able to: transform numbers from base 10 to binary base and vice versa, carry out the four operations with binary numbers, write algorithms for theoretical performers and implement them in practice by writing customized functions with excel, build truth tables and simplify logical expressions, use the most appropriate graphic formats for the digital processing of images, use network services.
Course contents
Historical notes and introductory concepts relating to information technology;
Representation of information:
- Coding of numbers and numbering systems;
- The four operations in binary basis;
- Digital encoding of text and images;
Boolean algebra;
HW and SW architecture of a computer;
Programming and Algorithms;
Insights into personal utility tools (Microsoft Word / Excel / PowerPoint) (COMPUTER LAB EXERCISE).
