93756 - Fundamentals Of Aircraft Design

Academic Year 2020/2021

  • Teaching Mode: Traditional lectures
  • Campus: Forli
  • Corso: Second cycle degree programme (LM) in Aerospace Engineering (cod. 5723)

Also valid for Second cycle degree programme (LM) in Aerospace Engineering (cod. 5723)

Learning outcomes

The student, after a general overview of aeronautical structures and airframe loads, becomes familiar with the classical methods for the basic evaluation of stresses and strains in aerospace components, with particular focus on beams and semi-monocoque configurations.

Course contents

Main topics:

- Introduction to airplane structures and characteristics

- Diagrams (V-n diagram, Gust diagram, Flight maneuvring envelope)

- Linear-elastic theory

- De Saint Venant beam theory

- Axial Forces

- Bernoulli-Eulero bending

- Thin-walled section loads

Teaching methods

Lectures are held by the course teacher. Explicit demonstration of the mathematical approach will be followed by applications to practical aerospace enviroment.

Teaching tools

Computer slides by LCD projector are used in addition to the standard blackboard
