Learning outcomes
The student acquires the techniques for the radiographic study of the dental apparatus: endoral and extraoral technique, projections and correctness criteria. Use of the OPT (orthopantomograph) apparatus for the study of the dental apparatus and for the cephalometric study in teleradiography. Orthodontic indications and dental skeletal class assessments. Communication and radiation protection necessary in a pediatric setting. The TMJ (temporomandibular joint) study: the RX techniques and projections and correctness criteria.
Course contents
Anatomical outline of the oral cavity. Teeth: deciduous, permanent, implantology and international nomenclature.
Imaging techniques of the dental apparatus in adult and pediatric age: intraoral, extraoral and CT dentalscan.
Cephalometric imaging techniques: skull teleradiography, A.P. and L.L. and dental skeletal classes.
Anatomical outline of the temporomandibular joint.
Imaging techniques of the temporomandibular joint: orthopantomography and CT.
Anatomical outline of osteoporosis and morphometry.
Densitometric imaging techniques: conventional radiology (pulsed energy and filtered energy), TC, network connections and pacs system.
