Learning outcomes
Student will be introduced to the concepts of the 'data generating process'. This includes identifying sources, quality, and representativeness of data as well as the conceptual basis of using data to measure and evaluate social science research questions.
Course contents
This lab will include discussions and activities on the issues of conceptualization, operationalization, logical fallacies, ethics of collecting and using data, pre-existing data, finding new data, creating data, macro- and micro-data, and measurement.
The underpinning goal is to make student aware of the challenges and common pitfalls common to data collection, use, and analysis. It is also designed to introduce the students to new ways of collecting data.
