Academic Year 2019/2020

  • Teaching Mode: Traditional lectures
  • Campus: Bologna
  • Corso: First cycle degree programme (L) in Industrial Design (cod. 8182)

Learning outcomes

At the end of the laboratory, the student will have mastery of the three-dimensional digital modeling methods and techniques, as a means of virtual prototyping and cognitive system, analogous, homologous and isomorphic to reality, with particular reference to the product project and its problems: geometric definition at first, but also definition of materials and representation techniques. At the end of the Automatic Drawing module, the student will be able to use the geometric modeling tools for industrial products design, and will have acquired the geometric criteria and the methods for the building of 3D digital models.

Course contents

The course will be divided into two main parts, a first part dedicated to the treatment of the geometric criteria and the methodologies for the building of 3D digital models in which innovative teaching methods will also be experimented, and a second part dedicated to detailed revisions of a exercise, to be developed in small groups, which will address a typology of industrial products belonging to the same type of product but which will be different for each group, in the logic of a laboratory in which the role of the teacher is to accompany the students in search of their own solution that will never be the unique possible and already preset.

Readings/Bibliography

A reasoned bibliography will be spread out during the course and will be published on the course pages available in the Insegnamenti Online web portal.

Teaching methods

In the organization of teaching, didactic activities developed in an innovative form will be used, experimenting in particular with the logic of Blended Learning and Flipped Classroom. These activities include a preliminary preparation for the activities that will be carried out in the classroom so that more time and more attention can be devoted to problems related to the practical activity of doing.

Assessment methods

The final grade of the Laboratory will be the result of the agreement of the teachers evaluating:
- the result of the individual practical examination consisting of the creation of a digital model and its rendering;
- the result of the group exercise developed during the second part of the Laboratory;
- the result of the individual written test on the theoretical aspects covered.
In order to allow each student a correct awareness of his/her ongoing work ability, during the classroom hours will be carried out some self-assessment tests in the path of the techniques associated with the innovative ways described in the Teaching Methods of this course.

Teaching tools

All the topics of the Laboratory (lesson slides, exercises, tutorials, ongoing evaluations) will be available on the Insegnamenti Online web portal.
