Learning outcomes

At the end of the module the student has the knowledge related to taking charge of the person / family within the priority health problems of the surgical area. It identifies, plans and evaluates the interventions of collaboration and collaborates with other professional figures in the diagnostic-therapeutic pathways

Course contents

GENERAL PART

  • pre-operative assistance Preoperative nursing care: pre-operative education and preparation; the system for classifying interventions, surgical risk and degree of urgency; informed consent, intraoperative assistance
  • Intraoperative nursing assistance: transfer to the operating room and relative reception; roles and responsibilities of the team; main structural and organizational characteristics of the SO; management of risk prevention of surgical wound infections; surgical hand washing;
  • post operative assistance Post-operative nursing care: drainage (types, purposes, indications and management); sng (types, purposes, indications and management); wound assessment and medication management; postoperative complications, prevention of surgical site infections; artificial nutrition (role of the nurse); intestinal and urinary stomia (types, purposes, indications and management); pain (recognition and management); early mobilization and motor rehabilitation; education for post surgical adaptation.

SPECIAL PART:

  • ABDOMINAL SURGERY diagnostic tests of the gastrointestinal system hernias of the abdominal wall peptic ulcer gastric tumor § Colorectal neoplasia diverticular disease proctological pathologies cholelithiasis pancreatic tumor
  • NECK AND CHEST SURGERY Diagnostic assessments nursing assistance to the person with: thyroid disease laryngeal tumor breast diseases pneumothorax lung tumor
  • URGENT SURGERY Diagnostic investigations of the gastrointestinal system performed under emergency conditions nursing assistance to the person with: acute abdomen appendicitis peritonitis §bowel obstruction pancreatitis digestive hemorrhage § Esophageal varices intestinal infarction abdominal trauma
  • VASCULAR SURGERY Diagnostic investigations of the peripheral vascular, aorto-abdominal and carotid district nursing assistance to the person with: carotid stenosis abdominal aortic aneurysm chronic obstructive arteriopathy §Varivas of the lower limbs
  • UROLOGICAL SURGERY Diagnostic tests of the urological system nursing assistance to the person with: urinary calculosis BPH neoplastic diseases of the prostate, kidney and bladder
  • ORTHOPEDIC SURGERY Diagnostic assessments of the osteo-articular apparatus nursing assistance to the person with: assistance to the person with a femur fracture assistance to the person with pelvic fracture assistance to the person undergoing hip arthroplasty assistance to the person carrying external fixators

Teaching methods

Lessons will be held mainly in frontal teaching, supported by group activities.

Assessment methods

The final verification of the learning will take place with an oral test. An intermediate written test is foreseen.
