65905 - Mechanical Design and Drafting Applications (L-Z)

Academic Year 2018/2019

  • Moduli: Roberto Valmori (Modulo 1) Daniela Francia (Modulo 2)
  • Teaching Mode: Traditional lectures (Modulo 1) Traditional lectures (Modulo 2)
  • Campus: Bologna
  • Corso: First cycle degree programme (L) in Mechanical Engineering (cod. 0927)

Learning outcomes

The Student acquires the basic tools of computer aided design. He becomes able to apply the theorethical knowledge acquired in the first part of the class of Mechanical Design and Drafting to perform technical drawings in the mechanical area, in general, and in the industrial one, in particular.

Course contents

In the first module of 'Applicazioni di Disegno Meccanico', the Student performs several technical drawings of mechanical and industrial components and assemblies under the supervision of the Teacher.
During the second module, the Student has to solve some test cases assigned him by the Teacher.

Teaching methods

Laboratory is composed of two moduli.
In the first modulus of 'Applicazioni di Disegno Meccanico' the Student performs design and drafting of components and assemblies, under the supervision of the Teacher, with the aid of instruments or by hand.
In the second modulus each Student solves test cases assigned by the Teacher of the second modulus.

Assessment methods

'Applicazioni di Disegno Meccanico T' constitutes a unitary didactic class with 'Disegno Meccanico T'. There is a unic exam composed of a written and an oral test. Success in the written test is mandatory to access to the oral test.
During oral test all the design and drafting of components and assemblies performed by the Student are examined.
Teacher of the second modulus of 'Applicazioni di Disegno Meccanico' assesses the test cases solved by the Student during the course.

Written test relative to the integrated course of 12 CFU (Mechanic and Automatic Design CI) consists of two parts: - Written theoretical test, structured in a series of questions, within which it is obviously foreseen to perform drawings, which each Student can, at his choice, perform with instruments or in free hand (at this stage, the student cannot read texts, notepads, tables or manuals); - Graphic test (table), consisting in extracting a particular from an assembly and in representing it in accordance with the rules of the technical drawing (during this phase, the student can read texts, notes, tables and manuals). Of course it is prevented to the Student to make any connection to the computer network. Admission to Oral examination is conditioned upon being successful in written test; Oral test consists of a series of questions concerning the topics covered in the program, which, of course, involve the execution of drawings.

Teaching tools

All teaching material can be found on the AMS Campus portal, in the section reserved for the course.

Further slides and information can be found on theacher's web site:

Design and drafting are made in the classroom under the supervision of the Teacher inside the first modulus of 'Applicazioni di Disegno Meccanico T'. Computer Aided Design and Drafting are considered in the second modulus.
Each Student can utilize pc in the laboratories of the School of Engineering or he can install CAD software in his own PC under specific academic licence.
