Learning outcomes

At the end of the module the student acquires knowledge and methods of investigation of the composition system and design of an artefact, the study of its elements of permanence and the verification of the possibilities of transformation and configuration of the spaces.

Course contents

The Interior Architecture course aims to explore the issues related to contemporary living space, characterized by the constant search for flexible solutions able to respond to changes in the way of use of the contemporary city.

Living space as precincts of inquiry that combines objective aspects - pathways and relationships between the parties, relationship with the environment, constraints and formal solutions - to subjective aspects - individual needs and perception of spaces - will be the subject of in-depth research aimed at finding a balance between formal result, functional solution and aesthetic quality.

The deepening of a living space within the project developed within the Design Laboratory will focus on the use of materials and light, on the study of dimensional relationships and proportions between the parties, on the quality of the relationships determined by the succession of spaces.

Teaching methods

In addition to educating a sensitivity able to relate large-scale design with architectural scale design, the course intends to acquire knowledge and methodologies of analysis on the dwelling system as a as finite space in relationship with the outside and to an understanding of the inner space home both as a complex setting of a set of relationships, and as a synthesis of formal and technical choices.

Assessment methods

The knowledge of the notions and methodologies of investigation of the compositional and design system of a product, the study of its elements of permanence and the possibilities of transformation and configuration of spaces will be verified during the examination with reference to the design choices elaborated by the student within the Design Laboratory II.

The verification will consist in the check of the knowledge basis necessary to tackle the interior design project and in the discussion and exposure of the study to the architectural scale of the configuration of an accommodation.

The processing of the project proposal will be investigated with a brief report capable of exposing the project ideas and the references that have supported it and will have to be carried out in graphs, photographic and three-dimensional models.

The physical model in particular - useful for defining the shape, the relations between the parties and the spatial quality - will be used as the main instrument for the verification and supporting the design proposals.
