KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING ABILITY:
Graduates:
- will have basic theoretical and methodological knowledge of an interdisciplinary nature in the social sciences field: from sociology to law, from economics to history, from social statistics to psychology;
- will have sound knowledge of at least one specific sociological field; labour and organisation, cultural and communication processes, social security and deviance, territory and environment or social policies;
The above-listed knowledge and understanding abilities are achieved through attending lectures, seminars, supervised home study, and individual home study provided for in particular by the basic and core curriculum subject areas: sociology, economics-statistics, law-politology, history-geography and psycho-pedagogy.
Learning is assessed mainly through: written and oral exams, papers on topics assigned and oral presentation of the papers.
ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND TO UNDERSTAND:
Graduates:
- will develop the ability to apply basic knowledge of an interdisciplinary nature and in-depth knowledge of a specific sociological field of study to understand and interpret social phenomena;
- will have basic knowledge of the profession of Sociologists and its organisational background;
- will have skills for presenting arguments and discussing matters as part of a team.
Achieving the ability to apply the knowledge and understanding listed above is accomplished through: critical reflection on texts proposed for home study stimulated through classroom activities, study of research and application cases indicated by the professors, practical laboratory or computer activities, bibliographic research and on the field, individual and/or group projects, provided for in particular during seminars on sociological themes and/or during the internship and preparation of the final paper.
Assessment is through written and oral exams, essays and oral presentations which provide for specific tasks in which students' command of instruments and methods and their critical autonomy may be assessed. Internships are assessed through the presentation of an essay by the student and company tutor.
JUDGEMENT SKILLS
Graduates:
- will understand and have the ability to apply the method of sociological research and of the main quantitative-qualitative techniques of investigation and treatment of information for social research;
- will have the ability to analyse and interpret social problems with autonomous judgment through the application of the sociological research method or the empirical test of initial hypotheses.
Judgement skills are mainly developed through seminars, the preparation of papers in the sociological and economic-statistical subject areas, specific course units that focus on the role of social sciences methodologies for the analytical and reasoned interpretation of social changes in a specific area as well as through supplementary activities and/or internship and through the activities assigned by the dissertation supervisor in preparation of the final paper.
Judgement skills are assessed through the evaluation of the study programme course units and the students' autonomy and capacity to work alone and in group during the activity assigned to prepare the internship and/or final paper.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS:
Graduates:
-will have adequate skills for communicating and interacting with audiences in the scientific community, work environment and people interviewed (surveys);
- will have the knowledge and ability to apply techniques and instruments for interpersonal and mediated communication, information management including digital information treatment and management processes;
- will have basic knowledge of English (level B1) and possibly of another European language (in addition to Italian).
Written and oral communication skills are developed in particular through seminars, course units that provide for the preparation of essays, collection and organisation of data and interviews, written papers and their oral presentation. Communication skills are also acquired during traineeship/internship activities (including the presentation of a final report) and the preparation and presentation of the final paper. English language skills, and possibly another foreign language, are acquired through specific courses.
Communication skills are assessed through the evaluation of students' argumentation and presentation skills during course units, seminars, traineeship and the final paper as well as through the evaluation of essays and written documents prepared by students for each single course unit. English language skills, and possibly another foreign language, are assessed through tests provided for by the specific courses.
LEARNING SKILLS:
Graduates:
- will have the ability to choose, with a good degree of autonomy and responsibility, to undertake further studies (2nd cycle degree programme and first level professional Master's degree or equivalent programmes abroad) or elaborate upon their knowledge and skills specifically for career opportunities (vocational training or self-training courses).
Learning skills are developed throughout the overall course programme, in particular during home study, the preparation of individual projects, internship and traineeship, bibliographic and on the field research carried out for the final paper.
Learning skills are continuously assessed during the course units, through the presentation of data collected autonomously, tutoring during projects and through the evaluation of self-learning skills matured during the activity in preparation of the final paper.
