Learning outcomes
M-PSI/03: By the end of the laboratory course, the student: will be able to manage a dataset; will be familiar with data analyses and their use. M-PSI/08: At the end of the laboratory students will know: how to perform a psychological assessment; clinical methodology applied to clinical cases.
Course contents
M-PSI/03 (Psychometrics Module, Prof. Giulia Casu)
Variable recoding and computation; Descriptive and multivariate inferential statistics: formulation of research hypotheses and evaluation of the type of variables available for data analysis, choice of the appropriate statistical test, statistical analysis with SPSS, interpretation of the results, writing a report of the results.
Main statistical models covered in the course: General Linear Model: ANOVA (one-way, two-way) and Linear regression analysis (simple, multiple).
The Psychometrics module will take place in the first semester (September-January).
M-PSI/08 (Clinical Psychology Module, Prof. Elena Tomba)
The laboratory includes the following activities:
1- Assessment procedures in several setting: individual, couples and family psychological treatment settings. Virtual reality settings will be also presented
2- Motivational Interview
3- Symptom orientated interview
4- Clinical cases presentation: anxiety and depressive, eating disorders symptoms and how to assess them by symptom orientated interview.

The laboratory includes the following activities:
1- Assessment procedures in several setting: individual, couples and developmental psychological treatment settings.
2- Counseling
3- Symptom orientated interview
4- Clinical cases presentation

The lessons will be organized in practical exercises in the computer lab with the SPSS statistical package; the exercises will be individual or in small groups.

Assessment methods
Attendance at all classes is mandatory and it will be registered by personal signature. Admission to the final exam will be restricted to those who have attended all the classes.

The skills acquired will be verified through a practical exercise which will take place in the computer lab, using the SPSS statistical package and data provided by the teacher.

The to get passed the exam:
-full attendance is required
- participation and development of a role-playing made in group concerning the topics introduced throughout the lab classes with particular attention to the presentation and discussion of a clinical case in team groups.

It is foreseen the obligation to attend the laboratories, the presence will be detected at the entrance and at the exit, by affixing the signature on the appropriate sheet. Admission to the final exam is reserved for those who have completed their attendance.
Eligibility will be recognized in relation to active participation in the lessons and passing a final written test concerning the topics covered in class, the final test will take place during the last meeting of the laboratory.

For the practical application of the topics covered in the course, the teacher will provide teaching materials. Lessons will take place in the computer lab, students will have access to the computers in the computer lab where the SPSS statistical package is installed; the teacher will use the video projector and the PC to illustrate the statistical analyses.
