Information note concerning the processing of personal data provided through the Italian Periodicals Catalogue portal (ACNP)

Pursuant to art. 13 of Italian Legislative Decree (D.Lgs.) 196/2003, please note that the Alma Mater Studiorum - University of Bologna will proceed with the processing of the data provided exclusively for institutional purposes and in compliance with the personal data protection laws.

1. Why this notice

This information notice is issued pursuant to articles 13 and 122 of Italian Legislative Decree D.Lgs. no. 196/2003 - Data Protection Code, and in accordance with the general provisions of the Data Protection Authority of 8 May 2014 to visitors to the ACNP (National Collective Archive of Periodicals) websites.

2. Types of data processed

The Alma Mater Studiorum - University of Bologna, in its capacity as Data Controller, informs that, by entering personal information on the website or by authentication to the University's web services, the data relating to identified or identifiable persons will be processed.

2.1. Cookies

This website uses only technical cookies managed directly by the website.

Specifically, the website uses operational technical cookies, used to improve the navigation experience according to a selected series of criteria. They are particularly used to track some preferences expressed by users (e.g. information concerning language, maximum number of elements viewed).

2.1.1. How to disable the cookies
You can deny consent to using cookies by selecting the appropriate setting in your browser: all the functions of the website will in any case be available during non-authenticated navigation.

2.2. Remote traffic data

During normal operations, the computer systems and software procedures in place for the operation of the ACNP websites acquire some personal data that is implicitly transmitted in the use of the Internet communication protocols and is used to improve the quality of the service provided.

This information is not collected in order to be associated with identified interested parties, however by virtue of its nature it may lead to the identification of the user through data processing and association.

This category of data includes IP addresses or domain names of the computers used by the users to connect to the website, the operations performed (e.g. periodical search), the URI (Uniform Resource Identifier) addresses of the resources required, the method used to send a request to the server, the size of the file obtained in reply, the numeric code that indicates the state of the reply given by the server (sent, error, etc.) and other parameters relating to the user’s operating system and data processing environment.

The provision of the requested information is obligatory. This data is kept for six months, unless otherwise provided for by the laws in force.

This data is used to gather anonymous statistical information on the use of the website and to check that the computer systems are working correctly. The data could also be used to ascertain responsibility in the event of hypothetical computer crimes or in the case of damage caused to the University or other parties. This data may be notified to the Judicial Authorities in the event of investigations, inspections, etc.

2.3. Data provided voluntarily by the user

The optional, explicit and voluntary sending of e-mails, messages and any other type of communications, addresses or contact details indicated on these websites implies the subsequent acquisition of the sender's e-mail address and any other personal data used to respond to requests. All data will be processed in compliance with the principles of correctness, lawfulness and transparency, protecting confidentiality as required by Italian Legislative Decree no. 196/03.

Specific summary information will be progressively provided or displayed in the relative website pages for specific services available on request.

3. Purposes of processing and methods used

The data provided will also be processed using electronic means, for the management of the ACNP service, as well as for statistical and research purposes. In particular, the navigation data is traced to monitor the use of the service and improve all the ACNP usage activities.

The ACNP catalogue data may be used to implement projects aiming to improve the quality of the descriptions and to increase the visibility of the catalogue in web search engines. Data provided voluntarily by users (e.g: operators wishing to be accredited for the ACNP service) is processed for management purposes.

The data may also be processed for the purposes listed in article 4, Rector's Decree no. 271/2009. Specific security measures are taken to prevent the loss of data, unlawful or improper use and unauthorised access.

4. Non-mandatory nature of the provision of data

Apart from what stated for cookies and navigation data, the provision of data is optional, however if you do not provide the data it will not be possible to use the services for which the data collection is required.

5. Processing parties

The Data Controller is the Alma Mater Studiorum University of Bologna – Via Zamboni, 33 40126 Bologna (BO).

The Manager for computerised data management (updating the application and the databases) is Cineca - Consorzio Interuniversitario, Via Magnanelli 6/3 - 40033 Casalecchio di Reno (BO).

The Manager for the data information system is the Director of the Centre for the Development and Management of University Computer Services - CeSIA, Enrico Lodolo - Viale Filopanti n. 3, 40126 Bologna.

For all other processing operations, the Data Controller and Data Manager is the Director of Documentary and Departmental Support, Leonardo Piano - Viale Filopanti n. 7, 40126 Bologna.

Some data may, wholly or partly, temporarily or permanently, be disclosed and transmitted by the Data Controller to third parties and used, reproduced, adapted, modified by the Data Controller, also together with third parties, to manage library services or implement projects, initiatives and activities which aim to improve the operation of the ACNP catalogue or integrate it with national and international standards, and the widest possible authorisation to do so is hereby granted.

6. Rights of the interested party

The parties to which the personal data refers have the right at any time to obtain the confirmation of the existence or otherwise of their data and to know the contents and origin thereof, check the exact nature check the correctness or request the integration, updating or correction of their data (Article 7 of the Data Protection Act).

Pursuant to the same article, they have the right to obtain the deletion, transformation into an anonymous form or suspension of any data processed in breach of the law, and to oppose the processing of their data for legitimate reasons.
