Learning outcomes

M-PSI/08: By the end of the laboratory course the student will be able to discriminate between different psychotherapeutic approaches in terms of techniques and indications; be able to understand the application of the individual techniques to single cases.

M-PSI/03: By the end of the laboratory course the student will master psychological testing administration procedures;-be familiar with data analyses and their use.

Course contents

The course will take place during the first semester (January) for the M-PSY/08 part and during the second semester for the M-PSY/03 part (March-May) at the Cesena Campus of the School of Psychology and Education (address: piazza Aldo Moro, 90 and v.le Europa, 115).

Basic principles of cognitive-behavioral therapy and its practical applications

Case conceptualization according to cognitive-behavioral treatment based approaches

Panic Disorder: from its assessment to treatment guidelines

Eating Disorder: from its assessment to treatment guidelines

Major Depression: from its assessment to treatment guidelines

 

M-PSY/03

Main topics of the course:

-how to evaluate of experimental hypotheses and type of variables available for data analysis; how to chose the appropriate statistical test, how to performe the statistical analysis using SPSS statistical package, how to interpret the results obtained.
-Statistical models: General Linear Model, analysis of Variance (One way and two-way ANOVA, Multivariate ANOVA, Repeated measures ANOVA); analysis of Covariance; Regression analysis (linear and multiple regression); Non-parametric tests (Chi square test).

 Theoretical contents will be supported and integrated with: practical applications using SPSS statistical package for the data analysis; the exercises will be done both individual and in group.

Assessment methods

Full attendance to the lab lessons is essential in order to get admitted to the final examination.

M-PSY/08

The final evaluation will consist in a written exam aimed to assess the student's knowledge regarding the topics discussed in class based on the discussion of a clinical case.

 

M-PSY/03

The final evaluation will consist in a written report: The teacher will provide a database and the relevant research hypothesis to be verified. The student will have to choose the appropriate statistical test for the experimental hypothesis and for the available variables, perform the data analysis using the SPSS statistical package, describe and interpret the results obtained and write a report.

 

Teaching tools

Troughtout the lessons Handouts were provided. Slides projector, Lamp projector, DVD player were used.

M-PSY/03

 Throughout the lessons teaching materials and dababase for the practical exercises will provide. Slides projector, Lamp projector will be used. The lessons will be held in computer classroom and the students will have the possibility to use the computers in which the SPSS statistical package is installed.
