Learning outcomes

The student reaches the theoretical and operational tools to apply the Intellectual Property Law within the context of the enterprise.

Course contents

The program of this academic year will be focused on the study of patent law, applied both to inventions and utility models. Specific attention will be devoted to biotechnology patents. National law will be analysed, as well as the main sources of the European and international legislation in the field of patents.

Readings/Bibliography

A. MUSSO, Brevetti per invenzioni industriali e modelli di utilità, Bologna, Zanichelli, 2013 (text only, footnotes are optional).

Teaching methods

The subject matter of the course will be explained during classes starting from the analysis of the relevant legislation - such analysis will be performed with the direct students' involvement - and referring to examples and practical cases, which may form part of the course's programme only for attending students (only students attending at least 70% of the total classes will be deemed to be "attending students"). Attendance is not compulsory, but it is recommended.

Assessment methods

At the end of the Course the students are required to undertake an oral exam on the contents above indicated, in the light of the recommended readings and of the other teaching tools. Considering that the proper aim of the exam is to ascertain the student's understanding of the subject matter and her capabilities to apply the relevant principles and rules to practical cases, during the exam the use of the text of the relevant norms may be admitted upon discretionary evaluation of the teacher.
Students may undertake the "Intellectual Property Law" exam only if they have passed the "Private Law 1" exam.
In order to register for the exam, students have to log in into the AlmaEsami system.

Teaching tools

In addition to the study of the handbook suggested in the "Readings/Bibliography" section of this page, it is also essential to study the laws mentioned therein, and particularly the Legislative Decree no. 30 of 10 February 2005 (Intellectual Property Code)
